Art and Design

Our Intent

At Broad Chalke, we want pupils not to just develop skills in Art and Design but to become artists. In order to encourage this approach, we think carefully about planning Art and Design lessons which will interest and engage pupils but also help them to develop their knowledge, skills, expertise and resilience as artists. Pupils also learn about a variety of artists through the curriculum: our hope is that they will be inspired by a range of artists and learn about what inspires others to be creative.

Our Implementation

Our Art and Design curriculum is designed to develop pupils' knowledge and skills across four key areas: Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media, Sculpture and 3D and Craft and Design. Sometimes, learning might fit with wider curriculum themes or topics and sometimes our teaching in this area is discrete to ensure that pupils develop progressively as artists.
