EYFS

Our Duckling class is led by Miss Britton. The teaching assistants are Mrs Graves, Mrs Pietersen and Mrs Roberts.

At Broad Chalke we are passionate about ensuring our young pupils have a positive start to their learning journey at our school. We offer exciting and exploratory learning opportunities which, we hope, will inspire and enthuse our children.

The EYFS includes seven areas of learning and development and provides the foundations for future learning.

Young children learn best through practical experience, exploration and discovery. To learn well, children must approach opportunities with curiosity, energy and enthusiasm. Learning through purposeful play is key.

The Early Learning Goalsset the knowledge, skills and understanding that children should have acquired by the end of their first year at school. There are seventeen goals set within the EYFS framework and they are based around seven areas of learning and development.

Prime areas of Learning

Specific areas of Learning

The Characteristics of Effective Learning describe behaviours children use in order to learn:
  • Playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things and ‘have a go’
  • Active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
  • Creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

At Broad Chalke we use the term 'Discovery Time' for when our children are engaged in individual play-based discovery. The children also engage in guided challenges, whole class teaching and reflection times. All of these opportunities take place inside and outside.

We offer a rich learning environment which helps to spark children's interests. Our aim is to provide the right opportunities, challenge and support which helps develop individual children on their own academic, social and emotional developmental journey.
